Taroon Mandhana

Taroon Mandhana is the SVP and Head of Engineering for Products & AI at Atlassian, where he oversees a broad portfolio of products, including Jira, Confluence, Jira Service Manager, Bitbucket, and Rovo, that serve millions of users worldwide. In this role, he leads engineering teams focused on delivering cutting-edge collaboration tools and integrating AI-driven solutions into Atlassian’s offerings. Taroon’s strategic approach to product development and user-centric design underpins his success in driving innovation across the company.

Prior to joining Atlassian, Taroon served as Corporate Vice President at Microsoft, where he led the Web Experiences Team from 2020 to 2022. In this capacity, he oversaw the development and operation of content-based web products and launched a new personalized recommendation feed, Microsoft Start, helping users stay informed on local news, traffic, weather, and sports directly through Microsoft Windows, the Edge browser, and Bing. He also led other products, including MSN.com, Bing Shopping, and TakeLessons. Managing a cross-disciplinary organization spanning Product Management, Engineering, and Operations across multiple countries, Taroon spearheaded initiatives that leveraged AI to enhance content recommendations, user engagement, and streamline e-commerce experiences. During his previous tenure at Microsoft (2001–2014), Taroon led several teams at Microsoft Bing, where he was responsible for overall search results, including ranking, answers, user experience, and search metrics.

During his six-year tenure at Meta, Taroon led Search for its main Facebook app across People, Pages, Posts, and more, helping grow Facebook’s Search usage to over 2 billion queries per day. Later, he led engineering for Facebook Marketplace and built a personalized shopping feed that connected Facebook users with products for sale in their neighborhood, scaling Marketplace to over 900 million monthly active users.

Taroon earned his Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, and went on to complete his M.S. in Computer Science at the University of Texas at Austin. Over nearly 20 years of working on AI at top tech companies, he has authored several patents, contributed to operating system and networking research, and participated in standardization efforts for Wi-Fi security. Outside of work, Taroon enjoys exploring the scenic Pacific Northwest with his family.
