Rik van der Kooi: Former CVP of Microsoft Advertising, Former CFO of GM, Current Board Member of OfferUp and Criteo

Rik van der Kooi is a seasoned business leader with over 30 years of experience driving growth, profitability, and transformation across global enterprises. As the former Corporate Vice President of Microsoft Advertising, Rik built and scaled Microsoft’s advertising business into a $10 billion global enterprise. He defined and executed product strategies across search, native, display, and retail media advertising, while leading global marketing and sales efforts. Rik’s leadership also encompassed transformative M&A initiatives, including the successful acquisitions and integrations of PromoteIQ and Xandr.

Before his tenure in advertising, Rik held several executive roles at Microsoft, including Chief Financial Officer for the Online Services Division and Windows. He also served as General Manager of Finance and Administration for Microsoft’s Sales, Marketing, and Services Group in EMEA, and Finance Director for the Benelux region. Additionally, Rik held the position of CFO of GM, where he leveraged his expertise in finance and business strategy to drive operational excellence and profitability.

Rik currently serves on the boards of OfferUp and Criteo, where he brings his deep expertise in technology, advertising, and business strategy to support these organizations in achieving their strategic goals.

Rik’s contributions extend beyond Microsoft and GM. He spent over a decade on the Board of the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB), acting as Interim Chairman from 2018 to 2020, where he shaped industry standards and advocated for the digital marketing and media sectors.

With a strong background in finance and operations, Rik is passionate about connecting product and business strategies to deliver shareholder value and build exceptional company cultures. Currently, he applies his expertise as an advisor, helping organizations navigate complex challenges and unlock growth opportunities.

Rik holds an MBA from the Instituto de Estudios Superiores de la Empresa (IESE) and a BBA from Nyenrode University in the Netherlands.
